Now that the joys of Christmas and the sparkle of a New Year have dulled, we have entered the heart of winter…and flu season. As I currently type this, I am curled up on my couch, littered with Kleenex and cough drop wrappings. Sounds like a glamorous Instagram moment, right?

Alas, I shall persevere. In better news: I come baring gifts!!
Fate has shined down on me: I have an extra signed copy of The Immortalists by debut author Chloe Benjamin! This book just came out at the beginning of this month, yet has already gotten tons of buzz and positive reviews (it’s also on the NYT Bestseller List).
In celebration, I decided to host a giveaway! Here are the rules:
-
USA recipients only this time…there will hopefully be more giveaways soon!
-
Comment below and tell me your favorite debut author/book. Be sure to include your email address so I can contact you!
-
For an extra entry, follow me on Instagram (@megebutler) and tag two friends in the comments of this giveaway picture!
Simple enough, right? Names will be drawn randomly on Monday, February 5.
PS: here’s a quick synopsis of the book via Goodreads:
“If you were told the date of your death, how would it shape your present?
It’s 1969 in New York City’s Lower East Side, and word has spread of the arrival of a mystical woman, a traveling psychic who claims to be able to tell anyone the day they will die. The Gold children—four adolescents on the cusp of self-awareness—sneak out to hear their fortunes.
Their prophecies inform their next five decades. Golden-boy Simon escapes to the West Coast, searching for love in ’80s San Francisco; dreamy Klara becomes a Las Vegas magician, obsessed with blurring reality and fantasy; eldest son Daniel seeks security as an army doctor post-9/11, hoping to control fate; and bookish Varya throws herself into longevity research, where she tests the boundary between science and immortality.”
Idaho, by Emily Ruskovich. I have about fifty pages left to go and can’t wait to find out how it ends! The writing is suberb–starkly honest , delicate, and intimate all at the same time. It’s about the lives of a family dealing with a terrible tragedy and early onset dementia. One of the most unique novels I’ve read in a long time. You’ll enjoy its complexities and subtleties. :). Hope you’re felling better soon!

I’ve read so many great debuts, but my favorite would have to be Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. She’s such a beautiful writer, and there is so much rich content in that book – great for discussion!
